Unity Work

Unfortunately We didn't get as far as to get the game to work effectively on Unity, this was part to damaging my hardrive and we did underapreciate the amount of work we had to do, So we made a quick video prototype of how the game would look and did a camera run run-through of the level. It looked really nice in Unity especially as we add some very simple animations which we are going to run over with someone who specialises in animation. We thought about asking Dan to give us a hand. Also there's particle effects such as steam on the boat which we want to play with. The animations we tried doing on maya then importing them with the media enabled however we had problems with trying to run them as continuos animations on Unity so we may need to explore further whether that will be animation on unity as they are very simple animations on the whole.

Mexico Screenshots

Here's the final screenshots of Mexico and this is probably my favourite level. I really like the use of colours and they have meaning. I believe it represents Mexico brilliantly, yes theres plenty of room for improvement with certain colours. I wish I used different Colour for the Hat as it dosent stand out very well, and maybe include a few sombrero's on the floor as You might not be able to see them when it comes to experimenting with camera views on Unity. The colours of the sauces really work, Gives that mexican hot spicy feel and texture which I wanted. It should work really well with the animations such as the rolling barritos and lifts. I also wish I went with the idea of decapitating some of the heads of the peppers at the end of the level, cause I added the red blood like texture deliberately to represent that of a ancient mayan tradition in where they used to chop peoples heads of as a sacrifice to the gods. Iyt would have looked great and added that dark feeling but I would not have gone too over the top as our games is aimed towards younger people swell, Just were trying to give the game a more edgy appeal. I also really like the way the mexican sun dish has turned out. I deliberately included this beacause of how the Mayans used to worship the sun. Overall i'm really pleased with how mexico has turned out indeed.

USA Screenshots

Here is the screnshots from USA, and you can just tell it really has turned out well. Bright colours which really make it look attractive. Yes it could probably do with more experimenting with colour but due to circumstances I didn't have the time but it looks good, Yes I kind of went overboard with the ketchup but I think it works, it makes the level seem a lot more exciting and dangerous compared to if it was just left to bold colours. During the middle part of the level when you cross over Mount Rusmoore I believe there could be a lot added to improve the aesthetics as not a lot happens plus some of the colour tones get a bit repetitive over that zone and I believe if I had more time i would have liked to change. I also added some little details such as logos flag's and so on but overall I'm very pleased with the final outcome.

Canada Screenshots

Here is some screenshots of the finished model in maya before it gets imported on unity, Im happy with the results, but the only problem I have is that it looks a little bare and could do with a few more assets maybe to liven it up. However hopefully when its placed into unity we can add things such as chocolate water which will really bring it out to play. I did a few alterations to the level aswell as I wasnt happy with the roof like model which was supposed to represemt the forest and the idea was to have snow droping off. I could'nt get the texture to look right and just felt like it didnt belong cause it had a completly different aesthetic aproach because I tried something new and it looks alot better without, provides more open space which kind of works among the setting for Canada.

Also I also played around with the cake background as it was rather dull and uninteresteing as they were all that same size, its not doing alot but even something so small such as changing the size and rotating some of them as they were duplicated can make it feel alot more organic and like it actually belongs there. I Also decided to get rid of the Cup Cake which I had mentioned constantly throughtout the project, I just couldnt get it to feel rid so I decided to get rid at a late stage. If I was to do it again I obviously would have liked to have kept it in the game by going back and remodeling it but I hoped that I could sort out the textures to look good at a later date but it just was'nt working so I decided to get rid of it and it looks a lot better without . I tried to replace the cupcake by duplicating the ice cream but that neded me to go back and remodel so I just added a bigger bridge.

Mexico UV Maps

And heres the mexican UV maps and texturing, no further updates has been made as we were happy with the way the level was looking pre loosing all my files. The textures of beautifully toned and really works well. I think to the players they will easily think of mexico as the setting without been provided with any narrative or hints, Which is what we wanted. Not much left to say as were really happy and i had no problems at all and with how this has turned out, The lighter colours seem to work best with the toon shading outline, orange and Yellows in particular.

USA UV Maps

Theres no need to talk in as much detail as the post before as a lot of the ground I would just be repeating but here are all the UV Maps and texturing which can be found on the level USA. you can tell I have gone for a lot more striking colours and gone over the top with the amount of splash marks which I have done to represent the sauce aspect which on this level is Tomato Ketchup. Im liking the look, maybe there is a little too much but that is down to personal debate. I really like it but can understand those who might have a problem with it, as with the use of ketchup on important historical landmarks such as The statue of Liberty or Mount Rushmore, could be for seed as blood, however if there was to such as issue I have a backup idea prepared in going over the red sauce and turning it a yellow to represent mustard or even brown to be associated with barbecue sauce. I purposely made the floor a very bright colour which does not clash with any other colour as I noticed it could be a potential problem as there is a lot of different colours used on the game assets in the level. mainly Red, Yellow and Brown, so I couldn't use them, I needed players to be able to follow the path of the game and make it to the end. So I settled for a very bright green, I tried out a few colours but this was the one I was most happy with and added a few sauce splashes and surprisingly it did kind of work well, Also I thought of Mushy peas so maybe at some point I could work back into the texture to make it more recognisable to that as peas.

few updates which I have developed on is that when it came to texturing the road on the Golden Gate bridge I just thought of California and for some reason I ended up thinking about The California Walk Of Stars, so I played around with putting stars on the bridge, I deliberately made it messy as I textured the bridge ropes with a cheesy sauce dripping off so that ant well as it looks like the droppings from the bridge has created the stars and looks great with the hot dog cars driving across the bridge, maybe even some of the sauce dropping of them onto the bridge. I also did a quick test into Branding some of the items I drew a quick Tomato on photoshop and made it look like a label, this was a test for the idea of putting our own labels on the products, the Ned Bunsem brand, it looks alright but does not really work on its own next to other products which are not branded, but I can defiantly see the concept working with more detailed and better branding logos. Overall I'm delegated with the way some of the texturing has turned out.
