Style of Game

We looked at various type of games for our level and found the game 'Limbo' in the first image, was a game that is basic and clearly demonstrated throughout the contrast which helps to maintain focus on the game and the movement of the character. Which also lead us towards the game 'Paper Moon Game' which uses the same fundamentals of the visual aspect of 'Limbo' but is able to withhold the detail of the game. Both of these games are ones which we looked at because of the simplistic aspect that they hold on the audiences and how that simplicity is able to keep the audience focused and view areas of the level much clearer. However because of our concept is food landmarks the design would perhaps need to be in colour to enable the audience see the food landmarks as well as the food they are depicted as and left us to look at the game 'Critter Crunch' which is another game that enables the audience to focus on the actual gameplay through its very concept art like background and the main aspect such as the main character and game collectibles or objectives as block of colours with a black outline which makes it stand out. So we decided to follow the simplicity of both the 'Limbo' and 'Paper Moon' games but have the basis of a fluid background which enables the focus to be on the front of the screen which would be the main characters and gameplay.

Once we knew what type of art direction and layout the level we would take we started to look at games which had essences of food in their game and found Rayman and The Simpsons Games. Both these games have areas of food that we took away such as the Rayaman game having a simple spread of food with a cake being the platform or having large versions of lollipos and ice cream in the background. The main game that had benefited us would be The Simpsons Game as not only was there the whole level of chocolate which could be used to the creation of the Canada stage of our level but the gameplay such as burping, rolling and other elements of gameplay which allow the usage of the foods which we felt would help in our own production.
